Overview
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify regulatory agencies related to Hydrogen Sulfide
- Identify Hydrogen Sulfide, it’s properties and characteristics
- Describe where Hydrogen Sulfide can be found in the work place
- Describe the respiratory system and the human physiology related to the respiratory system
- Recognize potential hazards when working with Hydrogen Sulfide and identify methods to control the hazards
- Describe possible mode, signs, symptoms, and consequences of exposure to Hydrogen Sulfide, both acute and chronic
- Identify primary routes of entry, health risks and effects associated with Hydrogen Sulfide
- Define Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) and Short-Term Exposure Limit (STEL) required by OSHA for Hydrogen Sulfide
- Describe procedures, rescue and first aid in cases of Hydrogen Sulfide exposure
- Define monitoring requirements when working with Hydrogen Sulfide and monitoring equipment to be used
- Define requirements and limitations for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working in Hydrogen Sulfide environments
- Define Engineering Controls for Hydrogen Sulfide
- Discuss Hydrogen Sulfide related to confined spaces
- Identify respiratory protection used in a hydrogen sulfide work environment and escape packs used for emergencies
- Discuss training, safe work practices and procedures for Hydrogen Sulfide
